Old Document Review 'The Prophecy of Joachim of Fiore'

This document forms part of the Mirabilis liber which was published in 1522, yet was originally written by Joachim of Fiore and published in this document as part of a greater collection of prophecies.  It is known as a fact that this document, either as part of the Mirabilis liber or a copy of Joachim's original work was owned by Nostradamus, who copies one section of it word-for-word in the 1565 almanac.

The prophecy talks in detail about 'the barque of Peter' which is identified as symbolizing the Roman Church, and is a strange prophecy in a sense that it looks into the past, back to the story of creation and the giants in order to foretell the future, with the basic idea that history repeats itself.

The prophecy states that before a terrifying eclipse the Roman church will face problems and they will start to occur after a child has ruled in France.  This part of the prophecy was fulfilled of course in 1610 when Louis XIII became King of France at the age of 9.

The problems that the church will face include being led astray by those in charge which will 'destroy the Church's dignity' and will create widespread 'shame and confusion', this could easily signify the child abuse scandal of recent years.  The second great problem shall be false Christians.  Yet although these will cause much distress to the Roman Church, it is said that it will not sink, yet neither will it be worthy to be 'considered the abode of the masters of the world'.
