Old Document Review 'Compendium revelationum'

This ancient document was written by Savonarola in 1495 and appeared not only in Mirabilis liber collection of prophecies in 1522, but was also seen as an important influence over what Nostradamus wrote in his preface to Cesar.

It is used as an extract in the Mirabilis liber, however, the manuscript itself is not a prophecy but a commentary about the abilities and knowledge that prophets obtain.  There are several points that the author makes, first that a prophet must not 'give what is holy to the dogs', recording that he has always been wary in revealing the things he is shown.

Next he states that a prophet is simply a person who knows things that every other human being is simply blind or ignorant to, that a prophet has a different kind of perception and a deep understanding of free will.  

Furthermore that only God knows truly what will happen in the future, this can be demonstrated in how some prophets have gone out a message for people to turn for their wicked ways to avoid destruction.  But when they have turned from the wicked ways, and the destruction avoided, the prophecy will not be fulfilled, but in a sense only God would have known that those circumstances would happen.

Lastly he mentions how prophets are under a beam of supernatural light, and within this light the prophet will understand but two things, the vision and the source of the revelation itself.  But this light is so strong upon their soul that it provides the prophet with complete certainty or the vision and the source.  Here a prophet is seen as a person without doubts.

Old Document Review 'The Prophecy of St Vincent'

This old document which dates to about 1503 is attributed to St Vincent, yet it is not sure if this refers to St Vincent Ferrer or to Vincent of Aquila.  It was included in the collection of prophecies in the publication of Mirabilis liber which was first published in 1522.

The prophecy stats off very cryptically and mentions two Oxen, an Eagle and a Snake, and I researched for possible meanings of what is mean by these animals, for example two of them have Astrological significance and all of them bear reference to various countries, however, these countries do not match up with the countries mentioned later in the prophecy.  So as to the animals, I am still scratching my head.

Thankfully the rest of the prophecy is more clear.  First it says how a King from the west who fights but in the end has to retreat, leaving behind his loot.  This matches somewhat to the events where Charles V invaded Italy but had to retreat without his spoils after his defeat at the Battle of Fornovo in 1495.

Secondly it mentions dangers to the inhabitants of Sicily, and indeed there was a lot going on in the years following, including exchange of ownership various times, a terrible plague and two large earthquakes in 1542 and 1693, one of which claimed over 60,000 lives.

Next it mentions a schism within the church resulting in two popes existing at the same time, however the Great schism had occurred hundreds of years previous where three popes had existed, but it could refer to when Henry VIII broke away from the church and became the head of the Church of England.

Finally it mentions that three armies shall attack Italy, and indeed in the 16th century, Italy was attacked by the French, the Spanish and the Swiss.

The prophecies seem to be a mix of events which have happened before the publication yet there were some events that were foretold correctly.

Old Document Review 'On the Seven Seals of the Apocalypse'

This ancient document was written by Joachim of Fiore (d.1202) and features his interpretations of what the seals in the Book of Revelations represent.  Joachim sees the seals as representing the story of the church between the first and the second coming of Jesus.

However his understanding goes much deeper, when Joachim looks at history he sees a link to the Trinity, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are matched to the Old Testament, the life of Jesus and the New Testament.  Whats more, is that each of these eras can be broken down into seven periods of time which will match with the corresponding period in the next era.  These seven periods are also represented by the seven seals which are laid out in the Book of Revelations.  As always periods of time divided into seven can also be linked to how the Mayans viewed time, each period of time is seen to have seven days and six nights.

For example the first period in the Old Testament is seen from Abraham to the promised land, which is matched to the New Testament period of time from John the Baptist to the early church.  This matching carries on as far as the sixth seal which Joachim seen as matching against his own era, and everything that was happening during his lifetime such as the crusades and so on.  Joachim foretells that soon the Catholic Church shall be overthrown or challenged by a new church (the rise of Protestants?) and he sees this as the time where Satan will be bound up into his prison.  Then in the seventh seal will be the second coming.

Jacob Boehme (1575 - 1624)

Jacob Boehme was born in Poland, and was raised in a Christian family,as a young lad he became a shoemakers apprentice and stayed with the family who were not Christians, which opened his eyes to the world around him.  It is recorded that he regularly studied the Bible yet also took time to read works by visionaries such as Paracelcus.

Boehme had numerous mystical experiences, the highlight of which occurred in 1600 when he received a vision which revealed to him the spiritual structure of the world and gave him a great understanding of good and evil and the ongoing relationship between man and God.  It was not until twelve years after this that he started to write, but his writings gained mixed success, at one point he was even asked to leave his town.  But by the time of his death in 1624, he had written many documents of various subjects such as 'Of the Last times' (1620) , 'Answers to forty questions regarding the soul' (1620) and 'The Supersensual Life' (1624)

I came across references to Boehme made by the famous John Wesley and others during the 18th century who looked upon Boehme's writings as a great source of knowledge, and indeed he was considered as the original thinker in the Lutherian tradition and maintained many followers after his death who became known as Behmenists.  I am planning to get a hold of some translations of his writings and review them here at a later date.

Old Document Review 'The prophecies of Joannes Vatiguerro'

There are three seperate manuscipts in the Mirabilis liber that are said to originate from this author, but published as a whole with the rest of the collection in Mirabilis liber in 1522, so the original prophecies would have existed before this date.

To be honest there is a huge amount of material in these prophecies, and many of them can be referenced against the prophecies of Nostradamus, in a sense proving that he had this book in his vast library of prophecy books. However there are a number of events that are foretold that have since come to pass since 1522, below I have listed a few:

-the plot against the King of France in 1503

-the capture of King Francis I during the Battle of Pavia in 1525

-the massive earthquake of 1556 in China which claimed 800,000 lives

-the French Revolution (1789-1799)

-the consolidation of Spain after the invasion of Aragon by Philip V in 1707

There is also a number of prophecies given in these manuscripts which can be seen as talking about the end times, again I have listed a few below

-frightening earthquakes in many places

-food production shall diminish

-the sea will rage

-the air will be contaminated

-two moons will be seen at the same time

-an unspeakable plague

Costa Concordia in prophecies?

I just wanted to post a quick blurb about the recent disaster of the Costa Concordia, like many people it grabbed my attention seeing such shocking pictures such as the one above.  I have to say that my heart goes out to the families of those who have been lost in this disaster.

  And I just wanted to post up a few extracts from Book of Prophecies which may mention the disaster, I would like to know your opinion, please comment;

“death to men, peril to ships” 1(vii)

“A man runs from responsibility and it will bring loss of affection” 3(ii)

“abandoned, plates left overturned, it is empty... silence on the ship” 7(iii)

“ship lost, danger, death, balance lost” 7(iv)

“a champagne glass sideways in a picture on the wall where green curtains hang” 10(xi)

“man found in orange by boat overturned” 12(vii)


Update: I was watching the documentary about the disaster, I had heard rumours, yet the program confirmed that there were indeed 13 decks on the Costa Concordia.  Why was that important? Well as you know the accident happened on Friday 13th, the exact same day on which Book of Prophecies was launched, the book contains 13 chapters, in each 13 verses, so as for the book it has 2 number thirteens, the boat and date contain 2 thirteens, and the date itself upon inspection will show you another set of thirteens, simply add the month (1) to the year.  Indeed all the events are linked together by this number, not for anything other that to highlight the words above which are carried in the messages of the book.

The three secrets of Fatima

In 1917, Lucia Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto claimed to have seen visions, the three young shepherd children from the town of Fatima in Portugal claimed to have received words of prophecy from the Virgin Mary and they were shown terrible visions of which they refused to share. Within three years, two of the children had died, and the third decided to share the secrets in the prophecies with the Vatican, with-holding the last of the three till 1943.

The secrets have since been released by the church, yet many people believe that these could be false and that the church has chosen to withhold the true secrets that had been revealed. The first secret is of a vision of hell, seeing the demons and the tormented souls suffering the great fire. The second announces that the war (World War 1) will soon end, but that if people don't change their ways that a bigger and more devastating war will break out (World War 2). The third foretells blood of many religious people being spilt and some point to this as predicting the attempted assassination of the Pope in modern times.

The controversy is centred around the third secret, as it was supposedly written on only one sheet of paper, where-as four sheets were released, leading to claims that the actual secret had not been released. People who had spoken to the author and people who had seen the secret referred only to one piece of paper. The Vatican did not help themselves as they held back from releasing it, as the author had wanted it revealed in 1960, yet they held out, making some guess at what it could have said and that it may suit the church to hide the real secret for some reason. Either way, we will never know for sure.

Old Document Review 'Question and Answer Manual on the Apocalpse'

This ancient document is said to have been written by Alcuin of York (d.804) in the ninth century and it is a list of questions about the Apocalypse (Revelations) along with a set of answers.  Alcuin was associated with Charlemagne's school called the Carolingian court, he worked there as a scholar at the invitation of Charlemagne himself.

Alcuin sees the seven seals in the Book of Revelations (Apocalypse) as being opened after Jesus had lived his life, died and rose again and returned to heaven.  The first seal is seen as the start of the early church, the following three seals are seeing as wars against the church.  The fifth seal is seen as the triumph of the church over its enemies, the sixth is seen as the time of the Antichrist and the seventh as the start of eternal life.

It is an interesting document yet it is quite short, it lacks the explanation of how each seal points to these events but simply points at the direction of their meaning.  In a sense the wars against the church could be seen as the persecution by the Romans before the formation of the Roman Catholic Church, and the second could be when the crusades happened, but this would be simple speculation based upon brief words, which can be linked to other documents rather than being the origin of the ideals.  However the idea that the Book of Revelations is fully prophetic of the future, rather than being an explanation of Jesus' life, lives on to this day and many people still view the Book of Revelations as a prophecy for the future and not the past.

Time for Change?

  If I was to look around the normal everyday household, a family home; you would see that the dad will be quietly sat on his comfortable armchair reading the text on the TV, the mother reading away on her ebook reader, their son on the sofa playing a portable games console, and their daughter also on the sofa but browsing the web on her laptop. Is this what was envisioned when electricity was invented? Is the process of developed technology, something that steals away the personal side of humanity?

Think about it, we make friends and talk to friends through online social networks, we can arrange dates by dating websites, we can do online banking to pay bills. However amazingly fancy these developments seem, we cannot ignore that there are consequences. For example, in my local bank they have removed the customer services desk and replaced it with machines. Another example would be self-service tills in the shops. Now I don’t want to sound like some backwards person thinking some old way of life is more idealistic, but there are so many ways that the modern life removes social interactions from our every day moments.

Its not that I am saying that all these changes are wrong, but what I am saying is that all these changes are taking place without us all debating as a society if this is what we want in our lives and in our children’s lives. Everything we do as a society will have consequences. For example the invention of paper eventually led to the destruction of forests around the world, which in turn has reduced the amount of leaves turning carbon dioxide into oxygen. I am sure that hasn’t had any effect on global warming at all? Or maybe it has.

Another great example of doing something without considering consequences would be the global market expansion, we thought this as being a good thing, something to increase business, to increase the interest in bonds and investments. But look at the sheer disaster of it all now. The ‘market’ can now put so much pressure onto countries that it can force a change in a president or even a government. Let me ask you, where in the description of democracy does it say that people can vote in whoever they want, until the markets become unhappy with their choice and then someone else has to be chosen. World markets now have too much power, and the more you think about it, the more scary it gets. The rating agencies guide investors to downgrade and upgrade bonds. So in a sense, the rating agencies control the market, and therefore the rating agencies can force control onto governments! Has anyone asked who owns these companies? For all we know it’s the people who lend out all the money to countries, that way, now they are getting a higher percentage for all that money they lend out. Now I am not a conspiracy kind of person, all I am saying that it is wrong not to be asking these questions. I want to know who these people are, I want to know who my country owes all that money to, I want to know who my government is giving money to.

If I was a communist right now I would be laughing in the face of democracy. Not to say that communism is perfect, maybe no system can ever be right. As soon as positions of power are created, there is always the chance that someone may come along and abuse it. It only takes seconds to think of many examples of this, and you can’t really blame anyone for it, as humans we are all flawed. But we must recognise that any system we create will also be flawed. Computer systems get viruses. Markets crash. Cars break down. Planes crash. Asset markets will cause bubbles that burst. In some ways I wish there was no system, that there was no government, that there was no debt crisis, but that is not being realistic.

But maybe the fault is not of the creation of electricity, okay there are things we could have done better with the development of electricity, like maybe invented wind power or solar panels before the mass roll-out to the public. No maybe the problem is not electricity, maybe the problem goes back a lot further, maybe the real problem is actually money. Yes I said money. Imagine for a moment a world without it, we used to have a world without it. Money when originally invented had a value to it, gold and silver coins, a value that could be measured. Nowadays money is made from worthless metals and paper, the value of it is imagined. Imagined things just like asset markets can make bubbles that can burst. If the value of the euro suddenly dropped, it is suddenly worth less dollars, and vice versa. Money created the worldwide market, money created the everyday items that remove our social interactions. However, money is actually not the root cause, the root cause to all of this is us.

Well think about it, we invented all these things, we were unhappy with a simple life of living in a straw hut, with a fire and a wife and kids, we chose to invent ways to improve ourselves and our greed has taken us to many low points. The countless wars over land, the devastation during two World Wars, the almost destruction of the world during the missile crisis in the 60’s, the global warming crisis that engulfs us now. These are all things that have originated from our ancestors greed. But is there even any point in saying these things? People may read this and think ‘Hmm some interesting points Mr’, but they won‘t go on to make changes in their life. Can we as a society change? At least to make the changes that we need to? This will ever more grow as a topic, especially in 2012, a year in which many people and ancient civilisations pointed out as an important year for humanity. Will we as humans choose to change and avoid destruction?

Old Document Review 'Prophecy on the Angelic Pastor'

This document forms part of the Mirabilis liber, a book of gathered prophecies that was published in 1522, this particular section was a prophecy written by St.Cyril concerning an angelic pastor.

It is said that this man, once a hermit, will be holy and saintly to the extent that he ends up as Pope, where he sets about to make major reform within the church, it is said that he will ban hymn-singing and also dancing and such things as banning women from wearing jewelry.

It is also said that he will remain the pope for a long time, and after his death will follow three more popes who will follow his teachings and that these will be called the angelic pastors.

I did a little research and could not find history since 1522 to match this prophecy, it is possible that this prophecy is strongly linked to what was happening in the church at the time that this publication came out.  Pope Alexander VI (1492-1503) had been a terrible pope and had fathered several children by various mistresses.  In 1510 Martin Luther had made his trip to Rome and witnessed the immorality of the clergy, which eventually led to what is called the Reformation.  It may be seen here that this prophecy is very much linked to the immorality going on at the time, foreseeing a Pope who would change things to stop the corruptions.
